Chapter Twenty-Two

Sabrina

I’m sure at somewhere between three a.m. and six thirty a.m., I must have dozed at some point, but I’d convinced myself I stared at the ceiling the whole time—a lot of staring for the last twelve hours.

I made coffee, but as soon as the usually welcome liquid reached my stomach, I ran for the bathroom. At least I hadn’t thrown up at Cameron’s house. Might have killed their mood.

I showered, but the hot water did nothing to soothe me. I removed my contacts and dug my glasses out of the drawer. I left my hair to dry naturally, which I’d regret later when the waves took over. My hair situation could be worse. I could have to deal with Jaynie’s massive bush of curls.

If I didn’t call her soon, she’d come to my door, and I wasn’t up to physically dealing with anyone.

Since I’d never turned on the ringer after I left Cameron’s, my phone vibrated with an incoming call from Jaynie.

Damn, Jaynie, when are you ever up this early on a Sunday morning?

“I want to know what happened, and I want to know now. What the fuck happened?”

“Well, good morning to you.” She never beat around the bush with me.

“Cut the bullshit. I get a text from Cameron last night…which I had to answer and delete all before Jordan saw it. What happened?”

“Do we have to do this now?”

“Well, either now or in thirty-five seconds. What’s it gonna be?”

Shit.

“It’s not a big deal. I was watching Cameron and this girl, and I decided to leave. That’s all.” My heart pounded. Even on the phone, I was terrible liar.

“Really?”

I held the phone away from my face, briefly stared at the ceiling, and sighed. “I got a little upset about watching him, them,” I corrected.

“My God, what was he doing? I’ve never heard of him doing creepy stuff.”

I guess creepy was a relative term. Knowing her imagination, I’m sure she thought he was filming a porno movie. “I liked what I saw.”

“And that made you leave so fast? That doesn’t make sense.”

Damn her.

“I wanted…her to be me.”

I think I heard her phone hit the floor.

“Sorry, I dropped my phone. I’m a little, no, a lot confused here. You start out hating me for being a submissive. Then you come around and decide to research for your thesis. So you’ve gone from ‘you’re all going to Hell’ to ‘I want to be a submissive.’ ’Splain me, Bri. I do not get it.”

I’m not so sure I got it either. Jaynie wanted an explanation, and I needed to find one.

“It’s not so much I want to be a submissive and do things like the people at the party. Cameron was so, so…the whole thing was beautiful, Jaynie. She’s not even someone he’s in a relationship with. They just came together to play, and he was so caring. They were so easy together.”

I heard her sigh, and I waited for the imminent lecture.

“Bri, I’ll be the first to admit Cameron is like a magnet.
